BLACK SEA FOLK DANCING

HOLIDAY & TRAVEL EXPO 2006
Sunday 19.2.2006 @ 1pm
Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne

DANCES OF COLOURS

The Black Sea Turkish Cultural Association was established on 13 November 1999 by the Australian Black Sea community in Victoria. Its mission is to support the Australian community and other ethnic groups without losing their own cultural identity. To do this The Black Sea Turkish Cultural Association formed a Turkish Folk Dance Group.

The Black Sea Turkish Folk Dance Group in Victoria has been participating in festivals and celebrations throughout Melbourne for years. The Group which aims to promote Turkish culture performs both Turkish folk dances and music. They have been dancing in front of large audiences and introducing Turkish folk dancing to those who have not been exposed to the culture of Turkey before.

Turkish folk dances and folk music create one of our traditions which, for centuries, was the most effective means of national feelings and culture.

The Black Sea dance symbolises the wild waves of the Black Sea and the flashing and fluttering of the prized “hamsi” (anchovy) fish after it has been caught by fishermen.

This show is presented by the Australian Turkish Cultural Platform, Generously sponsored by Kahvecioglu International Imp. & Exp. Pty. Ltd.
