Dostlukla

Speech given at the Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne October 28, 2007 following a peaceful march from Federation Square:

Australia mourned as terrorists in far off Afghanistan killed a second soldier

And the women weep

The Melbourne Age on 22 October reported the killing of 30 Turkish soldiers and civilians this month. It referred to the terrorists as rebels.

And the women weep

After 911 the USA invaded far off Iraq.

One reason given?

Iraq might give Weapons of Mass Destruction to terrorist allies.

One and a half million Iraqis have died violent deaths and almost 50,000 US have been killed.

I know about terrorist. I have seen it. I have been involved in it first hand. Innocent women and children, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, British soldiers and their wives and children murdered by terrorists in Cyprus.

And the women wept

The Turkish Consul General was assassinated in Sydney in 1982 in cold blood by Armenian terrorists. No one was ever charged with the killing.

Is the life of a Turks any less because he is a Turk?

The Bali bombings with great loss of Australian lives is remembered each year. The Prime Minister stated that he would take pre-emptive strike outside our shores against any terrorist organization planning, planning an attack on Australia.

Terrorists from outside Turkey’s borders are killing innocent civilians and young soldiers. Since 1984, 30,000 have been massacred.
Does Turkey have the right to respond with force to destroy these terrorists? The PKK is designated a terrorist organization by the US, Canada, Australia and the EU

In Turkey today women weep

Turkish soldiers fought and died alongside American, Australian and other UN Forces in Korea. Does anyone remember their sacrifice?

Is the life of a Turk any less because he is a Turk?

The Turkish government is working hard to improve conditions in South East Turkey.

Tomorrow we celebrate the 84th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey.

The United States was founded in 1776. It was almost 200 years before black Americans were recognized as equal human beings.

I am proud to be an Australian. I live in a country where everyone no matter their religion or country of origin lives in peace and harmony in this great country..

Australians must unite to condemn terrorism wherever it occurs. People have the right to live in peace and decide their future at the ballot box.

No other path is acceptable.

We know that some races are portrayed negatively in the Western media. Turks and Jews have long been scapegoats in Europe and elsewhere. Jews have worked hard through novels and movies to overcome this prejudice.

Turks have yet to learn how to do this

But one day we shall overcome.
