Many people don’t realise the tulip originated in Turkey. Turkey hosted the world’s first Tulip Festival more than 400 years ago, the love for the Tulip and the tradition is still strong in Victoria today.
This year’s Festival will once again feature demonstrations of art, dance, music and gourmet food, where Victorians will get the opportunity to celebrate, learn, and savour Turkish hospitality, culture, heritage and cuisine.
Without leaving the comfort of Tesselaar Gardens, visitors will vividly experience Turkey.
When you arrive at Tesselaar Gardens, you will find thousands of visitors browsing through over many Festival booths and enjoying the festival’s events on daily basis. At the festival you will be able to:
Enjoy traditional and modern Turkish couture and textiles
See famous Traditional Turkish Marbling artist Esengul Inapulat. She is one of Turkey’s leading Ebru artists. She will run workshops at the festival.
Experience memorable performances of Turkish folk dance workshops, belly dancing, henna painting and authentic Turkish music organised by Gazi Yalçın.
Enjoy the aromas and tastes of rich Traditional Turkish cuisine, including Gozleme, meat dishes, Adana Kebab, traditional turnip juice, desserts, baklava, Turkish delights, Turkish apple tea and much more
The Australian Turkish Mehter Band (Marching Band) will perform at 2pm on Sunday, 17 September. A colourful show of culture.
Try Mehmet Balıkel’s traditional Turkish drink, Sherbet.
Try traditional Turkish costumes with the help of the beautifully dressed, Inci Yanık.

shop in our market bazaar (Turkish Magic) for hand-made Iznik ceramics, Turkish rugs, throws, bags, decorative pillows, traditional jewellery and more.
Sip a cup of Turkish coffee and after you have finished, turn the cup upside down and have an reader tell you your fortune. It is fun and who knows, you may like what you hear!
